Design
The Design Department at Fearplay focuses on shaping how our games play, communicate, and guide the player through their experience. It brings together gameplay, systems, technical, narrative, level and UX design alongside game writing and lore management.
These disciplines work together to create engaging mechanics, coherent worlds, meaningful narratives, intuitive player experiences, and well-designed playable spaces.

Systems Designer
The Systems Designer helps shape the core mechanics and gameplay systems that define the Fearplay experience. This role focuses on how different systems interact to create tension, progression, and meaningful player choices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and iterate on core gameplay systems (e.g. progression, resources, interactions)
- Support the balancing of mechanics to create engaging and tense gameplay
- Contribute to the structure of game loops and player progression
- Work closely with Game Design, Narrative, and Programming to align systems with the overall vision
- Help document systems and ideas using tools like Miro, Jira, or similar
- Playtest and refine systems based on feedback and team discussions
Ideal Skills & Qualities
- Interest in game systems, mechanics, and player progression
- Basic understanding of how different gameplay systems interact
- Curiosity about balancing, pacing, and player experience
- Interest in psychological tension and horror-driven gameplay
- Familiarity with tools like Unreal Engine 5, spreadsheets, or scripting is a plus, but not required
- Willingness to learn, experiment, and collaborate with the team

UX Designer
The UX Designer focuses on the player’s overall experience, ensuring that interactions, interfaces, and game systems feel intuitive, immersive, and cohesive. This role helps shape how players perceive and navigate Fearplay’s worlds.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and improve user flows, interactions, and overall player experience
- Support the creation of intuitive UI/UX structures in collaboration with UI Artists and Designers
- Help ensure clarity, readability, and usability across game systems and interfaces
- Contribute to onboarding and player guidance to create a smooth entry into the game
- Collaborate with Game Design, Narrative, and Programming to align UX with gameplay and tone
- Gather feedback through playtesting and help iterate on user experience
Ideal Skills & Qualities
- Interest in user experience, player psychology, and usability
- Basic understanding of UI/UX principles and player-centered design
- Curiosity about how players interact with systems and interfaces
- Interest in creating immersive and intuitive experiences, especially within horror settings
- Familiarity with tools like Unreal Engine 5, Figma, Miro, or similar is a plus, but not required
- Willingness to learn, iterate, and collaborate with the team
